Irish architects: an overview

As well as known Saint Patrick’s day a public holiday in Ireland and also celebrate each year more and more worldwide that is why we made a list of some of the most famous Irish architects and their architectural works.

The most famous Irish architects:

1. James Hoban (1758 – 1831)

James Hoban designed the White House which has been the residence of every U.S. president since John Adams in 1800. The design of the building was influenced by the Leinster House, in Dublin, which later became the seat of the Irish parliament. However, it was reconstructed after the War of 1812 when it set on fire in the Burning of Washington.

2. Eileen Gray (1878 – 1976)

Eileen Gray was a pioneer of the Modern Movement in architecture. She was an architect, furniture- and interior designer, who was well known to incorporate the work of the lacquer with luxury in the international style, the major architectural style.

3. Andrew Devane (1917 – 2000)

Andrew Devane an Irish architect born in Limerick. He established a large architectural practice of Robinson Keefe Devane an architectural and interior design firm specializing in the commercial, industrial, educational and health care fields. His most recognized works were Stephen Court and the Irish Life Centre in Dublin.

4. Kevin Roche (1922)

Kevin Roche is an American architect who was born in Dublin. In 1982 Kevin Roche won the Architecture Pritzker award. He is considered as the architect most creative regarding the design of glazed buildings. His office was preferred to design important corporate buildings. The most outstanding projects are the Ford Foundation Building, which highlights the great court, the corporate building of Deere and CO, etc.

5. David Collins (1955 – 2013)

David Collins an Irish architect who specialized in the interior design of bars and restaurants in London. He was recognized for his works in Michelin starred restaurants such as The Wolseley, Gordon Ramsay at Royal Hospital Road.
