9 Things to Know About Construction Intelligence

Short answer: Construction intelligence is the structured, continuously updated view of construction projects in a market — what is being built, at which stage, by whom, and with which products — used to make sales and market decisions. It differs from a project database in that intelligence includes interpretation: relevance, timing and next action, not just records.

Here are the nine things that matter most before you buy or build it.

1. It is not the same as a project database

A database answers *what exists*. Intelligence answers *what should we do about it*. The distinction is not marketing: it determines whether the output is a search interface your reps have to work through, or a ranked list of projects with a recommended next step.

If a vendor's demo consists mainly of filters, you are looking at a database.

2. The data comes from more sources than most buyers assume

Useful construction intelligence draws on:

  • Architectural competitions and design awards

  • Trade press and local news

  • Construction signage and site observations

  • Company websites and project references
