Interview with Ms Gislaine van Berkom
Building Radar: Ghislaine, the LKAB Group is internationally active in the market of industrial minerals with a leading position within a number of product applications. Your group is one of the world’s leading producers of highly upgraded iron ore products, providing millions of tonnes annually to a worldwide market. Could you describe your (daily) experience to work at LKBA?van Berkom: Our Marketing Communications team is focused on providing the right marketing strategy, tools and support to promote and sell our industrial minerals to the world. My daily work is never the same for a day, but always changing and exciting. Business to Business marketing communications in an international environment is always challenging and in our case a lot about project based turnover, making it very important to identify opportunities in time.BR: When and how did you receive notice of Building Radar?van Berkom David Högnelid, our CMO, was contacted by Building Radar and shared this information with the team. Within our team it is my focus to identify databases that can provide us with potential new leads, therefore I contacted BR for a demo of their database. This was about one year ago in Summer 2016.BR: What have been the main factors to choose BR as your external partner for your lead generation? There exist different local construction databases, but for convenience and cost reduction we were looking for one international database. That is why BR got our attention. We have seen over the past year that BR has increased their project input, providing us with more and more information on relevant construction projects all over the world that could benefit from using our natural minerals.BR: What are the goals of LKBA in the near and the more distant future? One of the objectives for LKAB Minerals is to grow her core business by 15% per year. This means, of course, increasing sales with existing customers as well as finding more new customers. Besides obvious business growth, we also want to be an attractive employer with safety first. And in addition, sustainability is also important for LKAB Minerals. To us, this is not just a fashionable word as we have set different and challenging goals to improve our impact on the environment. All details about our business and sustainability objectives can be found on our website.BR: According to these goals, how do you see the future cooperation with BR?One of the routes to new prospects is to learn about construction projects we could potentially participate in. This is where we trust amongst others on the input we get from the Building Radar database. Both in our established markets (Northern and Western Europe) as well in our growing markets (Eastern and Southern Europe, USA and Asia) the Building Radar database provides new leads for our sales team. We appreciate the openness and willingness to improve that Building Radar has shown us the past year. We really feel that as a customer we matter and our feedback is valued and taken into consideration to improve the database.
