Event Suggestions for Munich in January.

As a Munich based company, Building Radar would like to take the opportunity to suggest a few events for January 2015.

1. Trade Fair – Bau 2015 – 19th – 24th of January

BAU 2015 is the world’s leading trade fair for architecture, materials, and systems. Messe München GmbH is the trade show organizer in charge of BAU. Here is a short video about Bau 2015 detailing the future of buildings.

The trade show BAU – World’s Leading Trade Fair for Architecture, Materials and Systems takes place in Munich, Germany. The frequency of the trade show is biennial. BAU is a business-focused and industry-wide platform for all professionals involved in building design, construction and management. The fair is innovative and solutions-oriented with a focus on new developments for residential and commercial construction and interior fit-outs. In addition BAU is one of the world’s most visionary and ecological as well as social challenges orientated fair.

Quick facts – Bau 2015

In 2013 over 2000 exhibitors seized the trade show BAU as a presentation platform for their products and services. With their trade show participation exhibitors occupied over 120.000 sqm.with 235,000 visitors attending BAU in order to inform themselves on innovations and trends in their business. BAU is world’s number one for construction design with 50.000 visitors from planning offices and architectural practices.

2. The Long Night of Architecture – Friday 23.01.2015 7pm till Midnight

The Long Night of Architecture is organized by Messe München International in cooperation with the City of Munich and the Bavarian Supreme Building Authority in the Ministry of Interior. Please find a short video guide here and the building and route index here

Quick facts – The Long Night of Architecture

The long night of Architecture on January 23rd 2015 will allow citizens and tourist to examine the architecture of up to 50 different buildings in Munich. This year Munich will host the event for a third time after 2011 and 2013. There will be eleven differently color-coded bus and walking tours. The bus tours will work according to a “hop-on” / “hop-off” principle, with Odeonsplatz operating as the main bus station. Busses will leave between 7pm to Midnight, free of charge.

The long night of Architecture is the highlight of this year’s BAU trade fair, the world’s leading trade fair for architecture, materials and systems. The long night of Architecture allows interested persons to investigate Munich’s stunning classic as well as modern architecture and illuminations.

Main exhibit buildings – The Long Night of Architecture

New additions will expand the already wide range of participating buildings. This year visitors will have the opportunity to explore an array of additional buildings such as the Bavarian Landtag, the Siemens Headquarters at Wittelsbacherplatz , the New Apostolic Church in Laim , the Kare cogeneration plant and the German air traffic control at Munich Airport. The HVB Tower is currently not only the highest construction site of Munich, but also a highlight within the program. Well known Berlin lighting artist Phillip Geist will make sure to create a very special atmosphere by supplying a few installations around the city.

Further attractions – The Long Night of Architecture

In addition Munich’s Osram Lighthouse will allow a spectacular view over Munich at night. Less spectacular, but just as interesting is the new building of the channel operating station Munich East. There will also be a specific route dedicated to Munich’s Riem area where the Messe (Trade Fair) will be located. As a highlight of this tour, visitors will have the unique opportunity to climb onto the roof of the Messe building and look at the photovoltaic system.

3. Exhibition on the future of the City – 8 weeks from 12.01.2015 – 06.03.2014

For eight weeks, the exhibition will be on show displaying what has happened in the past and what the city plans for the future. In addition to the ideas and models on display, the town hall will hold several discussion evenings where citizens can discuss architecture, urban development and planned construction projects. There are also guided tours of the exhibition and city walks on issues such as post-war architecture and mobility.

  • The pedestrian zone, Old Town, Station District – how will these places look in the future? A first impression will be conveyed by an exhibition in the Town Hall Gallery
  • Downtown: think ahead! The Department of Urban Planning and Construction want to find out what the citizens think about the developments of Munich’s Skyline. The event will take place at: Town Hall Gallery, Marienplatz 8 18.30 clock, free admission, then until March 6, daily 11 to 19 clock.
